Macon Noise Wall

Noise Control Products is currently working with Georgia Department of Transportation and Prince Contracting to complete a Highway Sound Barrier Wall located in Macon Georgia by the end of 2012. The project was designed and engineered in early 2008. Noise Control Products Sales Manager and Innovative Project Designer Tim White introduced Georgia Bridge and Highway structure engineers to a light weight sound absorbing barrier wall that is made of a composite material designed for today’s hyper construction projects. The project is located in Bibb County just south of Atlanta.

The state was faced with having to construct a light weight affordable wall that would not only block noise it would absorb the highway traffic noise. I recent years walls were built on both sides of the highway. The reasoning was that if you put a wall on one side of the highway the noise would reflect to the opposite side. To combat noise issues such as this another wall was erected on the opposite side of the road.

In the case of the Macon noise issue residential communities were on the east and commercial business on the west. The residential community greatly needed noise mitigation while the commercial side wanted an unobstructed view of their stores from the highway. The only type of wall is a sound absorbing/barrier highway wall system.

Noise Control Products Inc. provided its Art- Vinyl Sound Wall System that met all the obvious needs as well as many other benefits. The wall is a composite material that will not rot like wood, rust like metal or crack and settle like concrete. It meets and exceeds all AASHTO guidelines as well as all Highway Federal Noise Standards. The Art-Vinyl wall is also graffiti resistant and paint can be simply pressure washed off the surface. Combine that with the light weight rails that can be installed and cut in the field easily with a lifespan measured in multiple decades and you have the best Sound Wall System in the industry.
